WHO NEEDS A DRINK?

Now that the long rains have come and gone, the residents of Mkomazi can enjoy the plentiful water supply that the rains leave behind. However, during the dry seasons the crew still have to monitor all of the water holes in case they dry up.

Drink up fellas and ladies!

The long rains fall between March and May, the short rains fall between the end of October and the end of December. In between, the dry seasons see temperatures increase, although the hottest time of year is December and January when even the animals try their best to escape from the hot hot sun. At the moment the sanctuary inhabitants are still enjoying hot days but calming, cooler evenings…

It is not just the rhino who rely on the water supply in the sanctuary, although thanks to their size, they do drink more than most of the other animals so never tend to venture too far from a water hole! All animals need water to keep them going about their daily business.

Even though the rhino can be a little unfriendly from time to time, they happily stand side by side with their fellow rhino and even other animals such as the warthog at the water hole - it seems that drinking in numbers is the way to go for the rhino.
