Exciting News!

Dotty now has some new rhino friends in Mkomazi...

Three more rhino have arrived at their new home in Mkomazi to join Dotty and her pals. The two males are called Jamie and Jabu. Deborah is the female. The three come from the Czech Republic which is very, very far away from Mkomazi.

4,195 miles to be exact!

Because the rhino had so far to come, their journey had to be carefully planned by Fitz & the Crew. Back in the Czech Republic, the rhino were carefully loaded into crates and driven to the airport. The crates were lifted on to a special aeroplane (the rhino even had their own version of passport control to pass through, just like you humans). The aeroplane flew through the night so that the rhino could try to get some sleep on their long journey.

Early the next day, the aeroplane landed at Kilimanjaro Airport, where the rhino were carried off and loaded on to trucks driven by Crew members. The trucks carrying the precious rhino cargo arrived at Mkomazi around lunchtime. But by then, the rhino were tired and a little cranky. Not to mention a little shy about leaving their crates for a whole new world that looked and smelt so very different to their old home.

Time to start exploring...

After one hour, the first rhino, Jamie, appeared. The Crew took it in turns to watch and wait for the other two rhino. Sure enough, before long, Jabu and Deoborah peeked out of their crates. The three rhino spent the rest of the day relaxing in their home and are settling in well.

Funny seeing you here...

Before they arrived in Mkomazi, the three rhino lived in a zoo. Even though the rhino were fond of their keepers, their new home in Mkomazi offers them everything they can imagine and freedom to move about within their natural habitat. It is their chance to be truly happy for the very first time!

Happy Days

Dotty can’t wait to get to know her new resident family…

Karibu to Jamie, Jabu and Deborah! Welcome to Mkomazi!
